Description
This was drawn 2009. I'm surprised I didn't upload it yet.
Yep.
Of all the backstories of Devil's Eye, the Mactan story is perhaps the most researched on my behalf (~SirChristopher does most of the other research), as it heavily relies on Antonio Pigafetta's testimonies of the Magellan voyage from Spain to what is now the Philippines. Of course, Pigafetta's accounts are less than accurate, so I have to cross-reference known facts on the Rajahnate of Sugbu plus the paradigms of Renaissance Catalonia, Venice, and Avignon. And let's not get into the finer details such as Italian merchant prince families, Barcelonian nobility, French Jewish lifestyles, Cebuano architecture and port mapping....
Thankfully, I've had over about six years of researching this story, incomplete as it is. I have better ideas on what the Cebuanos wore at the time (as opposed to stereotyped loincloths and beads as most Westerners draw them), and the featured four Europeans have a solider stories than what I gave them years ago. I just need to fill in some gaps.
I'm submitting this for future reference as I'm updating the Devil's Eye cast.
The above are Guy, Phoebus, Frascona, Giovanni, and Ulan.
Devil's Eye are © Salathiel Silva and Christopher Evans.
Special thanks to ~AlexeiKazansky for the Ulan costume reference.
